AQUATIC.

CANTERBURY ROWING CLUB. The annual meeting of the Canterbury Rowing Club was held in the club's boatshod on Friday night, Mr J. R. Evans presiding. The annual report stated that the membership was 234. The club was endeavouring to foster school rowing by giving free mem- ' bership to a limited number of boys from Christ's College and the Boys' High School, they ha zing the use of certain plant and the <lub's dressing rooms. Owing to the war, tho club had made no headway financially during ihe vear. The balance of assets over liabilities this year araouuted to £IO4B 4s, ■gainst £IOO2 lGs Id last year, an increase of £45 8s Id. Howevor, as £4O was transferred from the sinking fund, the club's finances had improved but little. Last year it started with a deficit of £2Ol 8s lid, whiio this year it had £175 16s 2d to deal with. Members were ftill enlisting, and tho committee appealed to thoso who could not go to the front to make an effort to reduce this deficit. The chairmm said tha. they would all regret very much that three of their members had laid down their livos for their country, and he extended their relatives the sincere sympathy of the club. As a mark of respect to the deceased meiribers, thoso prosont stood in silence. The report and balance-sheet were, adopted. One new member was elected. Tho election of officers resulted as fol-lows-—President, Mr F. I. Cowlishaw; vicepresidents, Messrs J. R. Evaha, N. L. Macbeth, H. Ayors; honorary secretory, Mr M. .1. Guthrie J honorary treasurer, Mr M. Lowry; management committee, Messrs W. Strouts, W. M. Stewart, A. Wilson, A. C. Pinwill, J. S. Guthrie, J. L. Campbell, and F. R. Dunsford; delegates to opening day committee, Messrs W. H. Evans and V. D. Hewer; delegates to Rowing Association, Messrs W. H. Evans and V. D. Hewer.

It was reported that the OpeniLg Day Committee had decided to .have the. day as near as possible to the usual date this year, and that it was to. be.of."a patriotic nature. Mr Macbeth moved—" That the club hand over the surplus of receipts on opening day to some patriotic fundi The motion was seconded by .Mr Pinwill and carried.
