The exhibitors ot the Horticultural Society s spring show donated their exhibits, which were sold at the depot on behalf of the fund. The week end sale of homemade foodstuffs, etc., was in charge of the ladies of St An. drew's Church congregation, and realised the sum of ;£G3 for the Red Cross Sick and Wounded Fund. . • ■ Tlie depot is bsdly in need of supplies of, vegetables and fruit. Any donations, large or email, will be welcomed. NEW BRIGHTON. A combined committee meeting of the New Brighton ladies and united Red Cross committees . was held in the Borough Council chambers on Saturday. •'■•".";", , , The Mayor (Mr J. A. Flesher) reported that personal donations toward tho "Our Day " fund amounted to £sl. The Rev H. H. Mathias. said that at an enthusiastic mooting held at Breeze's Road the ladies had decided to have a stall at Friday's function in the Pier .Hall. Mr Strahan reported that the IsortlvNe-w Brighton ladies would also run a- stall. It was decided that those in charge of stalls should meet at the Pier Hall on Thursday ti, arrange sites. . Votes of thanks were passed to Mr Raphael anl party, who gavo a concert on Thursday in «id of that fund, to Mr'C. H. Agar and to Mr W. L. Taylor for the,loan of,the. Pier, to Messrs Weeks and Co for printing, and to Mr J. H. Pierson" for. tuning the piano. It was decided to hold a flower show towards the end of November, arrangements for which wero to be left in the hands of Mr Mathias. It was also resolved that the Tramway Concert troupe should be asked to give a concert in aid of the funds in October. \ HAWARDEN. On Thursday a very successful "gift" afternoon was hold at Horsley Down House The function was organised by Mrs H. T. Lance, president of the Horsley Down Red Cross Guild. During the afternoon a most enjoyable concert was given by tho Horsley Down School, children, under, the direction of Miss Davidson, which realised the sum of £i 2s 6d. PAPANUI RED CROSS AND LADY LIVERPOOL LEAGUE.
The monthly meeting of the Papanui Red Cross and Lady Liverpool League was' held in St Paul's Sehoolnom, Papanui; on Friday, Mrs Orbell presid'ing. It was reported that the following -.articles- had been recowed during August:—3o pairs pyjamas, 5 shirts, 9 bed jackets, 0 towels, 12 table nap-, kins, IS hot bottle covers, 16 pillow cases, 5 dozen face cloths, 3SO handkerchiefs, 21 dysentery pads, 7 cushions, 12 arm pods, 10 bed socks, 75 socks, 1 waistcoat, 10 scarves, 9 pairs slippers, 5 kneecaps, 1000 swabs, 1000 bandages, sterilised linen, 18 pairs mittens, 10 balaclavas. Papanui School, VI. Standard girls:—3 scaivos, 18 pairs socks, 2 balaclavas, 1 faco clotb, 5 pairs mittens, 1 bed socks. TAI TAPU.' The fortnightly meeting of the j.a! Tapu branch of the Ladies' Red Cross Working Guild was held in the hall on Tuesday, when Mrs Macartney presided over a large attendance.
A letter was received from the secretary of tho Patriotic Committee enolosing cheques for £lO, which hod been voted to the Guild, and £2B 16s 9d from a patriotic ehoot whicli the local Gun Club held about a month ago, in aid of sending Christmas comforts to ih<j district soldiers who are now in tho trencliea. The donors wore accorded a hearty vote of thanks. '
An afternoon was arranged for Thursday, October 5, when tho parcels would bo mado up ready for transmission to tho men and Nurse Lowe. It was reported that the following goods had been sent to the Red Cross Contral, Depot, being tho work of s:x weeks:—2B pairs socks, 1068 roller bandagos, 70 triangulars, 22 binderß, 20 operation cloths, 6 handkerchi;*3, 20 suits pyjamas, 27 vests, 19 bed jackets, 12 under-pants, 25 day shirts, 3 dressing gowns. Owing to there being no demand for bandages at present, it was decided to expend tho money in purchasing garments to bo made up. Therefore tho Young People's Bandage Class had ceased work, and a very hearty vote of thanks was passed to tho members for their valuable work. The following goods wore sent to the Lady
Liverpool Fund :-r30 i hold-alls and 30 housewives'each fortnight,; also 15 dozen handkerchiefs and 41 pairs sooks. The sum of £4 16s wsb sent in as tho result of the. progressive euchre evenings (per Mr O. Wallace), and'£4 as monthly subscription.
GEBBIE'S VALLEY AND MOTUKARARA GUILD. Work by the Gobble's Valley and Motukarara Guild is proceeding very flatisfactori'.y. During the quarter ending August 31 the following contributions wero received:—Mesdames Dingwall 10s, J. C. Gebbie 10s, Nutt ss, D. Gebbie 6s, J. Hogden ss, Mr J. C. Gobbio 10s, Waihora Park Sports Club £l2, Rifle Club social (per Mr J. Wheeler) £6. The following articles haro been made and sent away:—To tho Red Cross dopot: — 27 vests, 21 bed jackets, 31 pair 3 pyjamas, 10 pairs shorts, 28 shirts, 7 pairs socks, 2 surgical nightshirts, 3 dressing gowns, 6 pairs underpants, and parcels of old linen. To the Liverpool depot:—ls holdalls and ,81 pairs socks. The following donations hare iboen received for special parcels:— Mtb Harbiron 10s, Miss Harbison ss, Mrs Bowlcy 10s, Mrs H Radford ss, Miss Gobbie ss, Mrs J. C. Gebbie ss, and 5s from Mrs H. Radford for the Christmas fund.
