OVERSEAS CLUB.

CHRISTCHUECH BRANCH. / : MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The Executive Committee of the Christchurch br.mch of the Overseas Club met last owning; prejont—The Mayor (Mr IT. Holland), in the chair,. Dr Jenningß, Messrs H. R. Smith. H. W Candy, P. J. Collins, J. F. Grierson, Harper, W. E. Thoinpson, H. Lightband, M. Moslcy, J. E. Hoyles and T. M. Charters. Tho chairman expiessed bis pleasure at being connected wit'i a club which had done such valued work in furthering the comforts of tho soldiers, and helping in war work generally. He felt honoured at being elected to tho office of president, and said he would do all that lay in his power to assist in pro, motingthe aims and objects of the club. A hearty vote of tlmrks was accorded Dr Jennings, on the motion of Mr,Thompson, for tho able manner in, which he had fulfilled the position of chairman. Tho secretary reportoa having written to the Red Cross Society, offering, on behalf of the lady members of the club, to provide and maintain a stall in Cathedral Square on the occasion of" Our Day," ' and that the offer had been' gratefully accepted. Tho executive agreed to support the ladies in every way possible. The secretary reported that, as a result of a concert Arranged by the local insurance companies for the purpose of providing funds to purchase gifts for members of their various staffs serving at the front, a sum of £26 had been raised, and the money would bo handed over to the club to deal with through its gift-box scheme, tho boxes being purchased in London by tho club and forwarded direct to tho men concerned. A resolution of sympathy was passed, members standing, on the motion of the chairman, with Mr and Mrs J. J. Dougall and family in the loss they had sustained by the dea'h in action of their son, Lieutenant W. K. Dougall. Tho question as to whether tho local branch should endeavour to raise funds to present an aeroplane to the War Office, or to give its rapport to the Hon H. .P.. Wigrani's local aviation scheme, was brought up, and it wag decidod to discuss tho business at tho next meeting. • > -•■ • LADY MEMBERS. : A meeting of lady members of the Overseas Club was held last night, to appoint a permanent ladies' committee to carry on the activities, patriotic and otherwise, ■of the club, and to make'arrangements in connection with the club stall on " Our Day." The following committee ,was elected:—' Mcsdames Jennings, Holland, Guthrie, H. It. Smith, and Misses Jennings, Storrie and Denniston (secretary). ' ". ■ Various matters in connection with tno club's effort on "Our Day" were discussed.
