MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
CHRISTCHURCH. Mr H. IV. Bishop, S.M., presided at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Judgment by default with costs was given for the plaintiff in the following cases:—Booth, Macdonald and Co. v. Hiri Parata. £2O 9s 6d: same v. A. Best, jun., 17s 3d ; Dalgety and Co. v. W. Holmes, costs only; Strange and Co. v. A.M’Callum,. £6Sssd; W. A. Blackmore v. H. • M’Lean, £l7 10s It!; Davidson and Wauchop v. E. Boocock, £l9 14s 2d; E. W. Miller v. Henry Edwin Manning, £o; F. C. Raphael v. W. J. Musson, £2- 1 ; Charles Butcher v. J. W Bradley, £2l. LYTTELTON. Mr L. A. Stringer, J.P., presided at the Lyttelton Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Godfrey Clark, on a charge of being disorderly whilst under the influence of liquor, was convicted and discharged. ASHBURTON. Mr G. IV. Andrews, J.P., and Mr IV. R. Oakley, J.P., presided at the Ashburton Magistrate’s CoMrt yesterday. Elsie Hearn was charged that on April 12, 1916, she did, contrary to her duty, open a postal packet, to wit, a letter addressed to Miss Minnie Tait, of Rangitata Island. ChiefDetectivo P. Herbert prosecuted and Mr Orbell appeared for accused. Evidence was given to the effect that accused’s brother was postmaster at Rangitata Island, and she assisted with the housework and also with the postal work. Accused pleaded guilty, aucl was committed to the Supreme Court, Christchurch. for sentence. Two other charges of a similar nature were brought forward, and accused, who pleaded guilty to both, was also sentenced to tho Supremo Court for sentence.
