RED CROSS APPEAL.

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE.

Tho Executive , Committee of the “ Our Day ” Red Cross appeal mot yesterday afternoon; present-—Messrs J. A. Flesher (chairman), A. E. G- Rhodes, G. E. Rhodes,, IV. B. Fox, E. Nordon, J. A. Panne tt-and P. Hallenstein.

The chairman stated that the Tramway Board had undertaken to place posters on the trams. • The matter of the Friendly Societies’ procession was left in the hands of the chairman to arrange. Tlie Star of Ashburton Lodge, U.A.0.D., wrote, stating that tlie lodge was working on behalf <of the “Our Day’’ appeal in Ashburton. '

The Christchurch Ministers’ Association wrote, stating that it had considered the circular in regard to “ Our Day ” appeal. The association was in sympathy with the movement, but thought that the aid to the Red Cross should bo combined with the appeal in the churches on behalf of the Y.M.C.A. on the last Sunday in November.

It was decided ,to thank the Ministers’ Association ,for its offer, which was accepted. The offer of .Mrs Davies, of the Federal Coffee Palace, to conduct tea tent in Victoria Square was accepted with thanks.

The Young Women’s Christian Association offered to conduct a stall in Cathedral Square. The offer was accepted with thanks. Tlie chairman stated that it was proposed to place tho stall at Broadway’s Comer. 1 ' Tho Christchurch Ladies’ Golf Club wrote, stating that it had decided to hold an ppeu- tournament at Shirley on September 30 and October 2 and 3, on ' behalf of the “ Our Day ” Fund. Local golf clubs were being asked to, assist. Tlie chairman, stated that , replies, were slow in coming in from sports’ bodies and associations that had been written to for .support. Mr Nordon said that some of the associations 'were short of money. . The chairman replied that ho . tlibuglit that those f with credit balances might help.® A £5 note would be very acceptable. Tlie secretary reported that there wei% 500 helpers for “Our Day,”, and he had written "to the Mayor for permits for that number.

The chairman stated that as a result of the personal the amount collected up to that Aftemooff totalled £2692 IDs 9d. Of that sum £46v Ids wiis from New Brighton. These contributions were from seventyeight subscribers only. Mr Flesher expressed the opinion that the personal canvass should bo continued until the end of October; Ho hoped by that time to see the fund, reach £IO.OOO. LEITHFIELD. Detailed arrangements have now been completed by the Leithfield Red Cross branch in connection with the “Our Day” appeal in the district. The Leithfield men have taken the matter in hand and-with the assistance of several, ladies’ committees good results financially are anticipated. Jn the evening the Barnstormers will give a' concert which will be followed by an auction sale and a dance.
