The .Prussian Minister of Education lias now been compelled to organise' on definite lines the substitution of women for men as teachers in the schools. It is laid down that women are to occupy two-thirds of the posts in girls’ 'schools and a. pertain number of posts in mixed schools, while their appointment to boys’ schools' is permitted. It is stated that between 40,000 and 50,000 Prussian teachers have joined the colours. and that about 4000 havo been killed. Meanwhile no new teachers are being trained, and it is calculated that it will take about six years to provide men to fill -one-tenth of the vacant posts., At the same time the ediication authorities insist that, so far from desiring to encourage more women to become teachers, experience’ has shown that in future women must be induced to prefer social work of other kinds.
