FROZEN MEAT.

DOMINION EXPORTS

Alessrs Pyne and Co., in tliftir annual “ Review,” supply valuable tables showing the progress of tho frozen meat business during recpnt years, and a noticeable feature is the, fact that whilst the sheep 'flocks have .shown a slight shrinkage, due to the unfavourable weather conditions which have prevailed in various parts of the Dominion, but more noticeably in the South Island, the exports of meat haveshown a substantial increase. The following extracts from the “ Review ” are interesting and instructive:— . , r The returns, published-* by, Alessrs Dalgety and Co., for the Shaw. J. , These figures indicate quite plainly what has taken placo, and they also account for the position of our Canterbury flocks at the present time. . It amounts to this. In April, 19In, which would be. getting towards the end of our meat export season, Canterbury figures indicated that- wo were about 216,000 sheep below the returns for 1914 at the same month. Further, a number of our sheep were taken south, as the result of a dry time here, and they have not sinco returned, or if so it is only quite reccntly, and yet. in face of the facts the Canterbury district > has exported nearly half a million raoi'e carcases or mutton and- lamb this year than it did in 1914-15, with the result that we now stand-in the position of having oyer 000,000 less sheep than we had twelve months ago. ,
