PROGRESS ON RIGHT.
THE STRUGGLE IN ALSACE.
By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright I 1 ARTS, January 1.
A communique states that the enemy unsuccetssfully bombarded St Georges, and also a Belgian bridgehead defence south of Dixmude. A lively canonnade between La Bassoo and Clarency, and between Albert and Roye, was to our advantage. Wo demolished some works near Oraonnolle. There wero uninterrupted artillery duels throughout the whole of Thursday in the Perthes and Beau Sejour regions. The enemy made a very violent attack over nearly the whole of tho front in the Hois do la Grurie, and gained fifty metres at certain points. We repulsed six violent attempts to recapture trenches north-west of Flirey, between tho Mcuso and tho Moselle. Wo continue to progress foot by foot at Stcinbach (Alsace). The enemy's artillery is very active, hut our batteries subsequently obtained a clear advantage.
