AMUSEMENTS.
THEATRE ROYAL
The kinotnatograph version of the famous drama "The Lights of London " and the supporting pictures were repeated at the Theatre Royal on Saturday night before a crowded house, the sale of tickets having to be stopped some considerable time before eight o'clock. The audience followed tho incidents in the picture with keen interest and were very frequent in their applause. The snino programme will bo repented to-night and tho two following nights, when the Christchurch •season will close.
FLORENCE YOUNG COMPANY
The iiual performance of "The Climax'' was given at the Opera Mouse on Saturday night by the Florence Young Company. Miss Florence Young was in excellent voice, and the play was frequently applauded by the audience.
QUEEN'S THEATRE. The holiday programme, headed by "The- Live Wire." was screened for the last time on Saturday at the Queen's Theatre, and was witnessed by crowded audiences at each session. Tho principal feature in to-day's programme is a drama in two parts called " In the Shadow of Disgrace." with a leading actress in the title role. A most unusual climiiS completes the film. The other pictures are two comedies entitled " The High Spots in Broadway ' and "The Widow and the Twins," a drama entitled "The Long Lane" and tho latest Topical Budget.
GRAND THEATRE.
A film entitled "The Cat's Paw." a story of diplomatic life with a love romance running through it, will be the " star " item in tho new programme at the Grand Theatre to-day. Other pictures will bo "The Field Foreman,' "Pimple's Firo of London," in which the irrepressible Pimple is seen in one of his laughable burlesques; "Bill Bailey, Dancing Master " (comedy); "The Land of the Hindoo" (scenic), and the "Warwick Chronicle." with the latest war news.
GLOBE THEATRE
At the Globe Theatre to-day a new selection of films will be screened. Among the new films will be "The Wreck; or Life for a Life" (drama); "Mabel's Bear Escape" (comedy), "Australian Gazette" (topical), "Courting Betty's Beau" (comedy) Mid "Montana State Fair" (educational).
FULLER'S PICTURES. The weekly change of film subjects will bo made at the Colosseum tolight. Tho leading picture is entitled '•The Mystery of the Sleeping Death," and the story was specially written to feature the beautiful player Miss Alice Joyce. There is a love story interwoven with an interesting legend of India. Tho supporting numbers are "French Battleships," "Little Mischief" (comedy), "The Price of a Lie" (drama), " Summer Resort Idvll" (comedy), and another comedy eaturing Charles Chaplin, the popular funny man. New music will complete tho programme HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE. The " star " feature to be screened at His Majesty's Theatre to-night is a ' Pathecolouv' military romance entitled " King in Name Aioiie." The plot is set forth in one of the Slavonic States in Southern Europe, where dynasties are always changing and where a man's hand is always against his neighbour s. In this picture a chance resemblance of a poor peasant to the reigning king enables the leader of the revolutionaries to perpetrate a glaring imposition and place his nominee on tho throne. The film is gorgeously coloured. Other films include "Hunger Knows No Law," "Tho Girl of the Season" com-edy-drama), a scenic of the Valley of tho Arne, the "OaumontWar Graphic, and a comedy entitled "A Brand New Hero."
SYDENHAM PICTURES
There was a packed house at the Sydenham Theatre on Saturday, when the programme was screened for the last time. To-night the new series will be headed by a film entitled " King in Name Alone," which is said to be a magnificent military and state drama. The'other pictures comprise "The Girl of the Season " (comedy-drama), " Vallev of tho Arne, France" (scenio), " Gnumobt Star Graphic," " Hunger Knows no Law" (drama) and "A Brand New Hero" (comedy).
GEORGE WILLOUGHBY DRAMATIC
COMPANY
The George Willoughby Dramatic Company's season in Christchurch of seven nights will commence on Saturday next in the Theatre Royal. Tho firm are sending a strong . company headed by Mr George Cross, who is already well known throughout New Zealand. Miss Vera Remee will be the leading lady, and she, also is a great favourite. The two principals will be supported by a company who havo been playing in the Adelphi Theatre, Sydney, for some months. Everything in the way of scenery and mounting will be sent over so as to stage each plav exactly as it has been done in Sydney. The repertoire will consist of " The Ever Open Door," by George R. Sims and H. 11. Herbert ;"Ouida's" great war drama " Under Two Flags." dramatised from the novel of that name; and '' Camille," the well-known drama in five acts by Alexandre Dumas, fils. AH of these productions have been carefully produced personally by Mr George Willoughby. The box plan will open on Tuesday morning next at the " Bristol," late Dresden, where seats may bo reserved without any extra charge.
