The musicians and theatrical managers have arrived at a temporary settlement, until an award of the Court is obtained. AUSTRALIAN WATERSIDE WORKERS. THE OVERTIME DISPUTE. ADJOURNMENT OF PROCEEDINGS GRANTED. MELBOURNE, February 28. Mr Hughes’s application to the Arbitration . Court for an adjournment of tho employees’ case against the Commonwealth Steamship Owners’ Federation, pending the results of the Federal ballot, was granted by Mr Justice Higgins, who remarked that ho would not arbitrate for a striking union, and it was a strike when, the men refused to work overtime in this industry. SYDNEY, February 28. (Received March 2, 12.35 a.m.) At the wharf labourers’ ballot in connection with overtime 168 votes were cast for and 645 against the proposal. It is anticipated that the Court will sit in a fortnight. MELBOURNE, February 28. By 669 votes to 390, the Wharf Labourers’ Union has decided to resume overtime, pending Arbitration Court proceedings. Despite the result of the ballot the coal lumpers arc reluctant to resume work. At a meeting of the Bakers’ Association it was unanimously decided to adopt legal and conciliatory methods in regard to obtaining requirements from employers. WELLINGTON TALLY CLERKS. An agreement has been arrived at in connection with clerks’ dispute and tho parties now await a sitting of the, Conciliation Council to make the agreement into an award. THE WELLINGTON WATERSIDERS. [Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, February 28. A deputation from the old Waterside Workers’ Union waited on Mr Massey and made . a complaint of preference being given to men ; belonging to wliat was practically the •same organisation, thus leading to friction and a generally unsatisfactory state of affairs. The meeting was not open to the Press. It is understood that Mr Massey said he would set up a commission to inquire fully into the working of the waterfront ,and conditions generally.
