OPENS AT TRENTHAM TO-DAY. [Pee Press Association.] TRENTHAM, February 25.
Though the. forecast is •not overpromising that hope which springs eternal in the.human breast will ■ not permit the' veteran officers at Trentham to believe that the weather will be other than«favourable for the opening of' the Dominion Rifle Assciation's meeting to-morrow. Camp;, arrangements are now complete, and competitors are arriving bv every train. Th-3 entries up to to-night total .350, but this number,- it is-anticipated}' will . be considerably augmented before tho serious business of the meeting starts. There are * numerous ' Territorials amongst those taking part/;but owing to the fact of • camps, preventing men from this branch of the Defence force being present, riflo club men are predominant. ' ■>] ■ . The earlier stages of the meeting will be devoted chiefly to Service matches, the Belt series occupying 'next week, concluding with the shoot-off on Thursrday. Colonel R. J. Collins, whose personality, executive and -organising ability have been such a -prominent factor in the development and success of the Dominion Rifle Association and the Trentham 'meeting, is/', at the range. Colonel Hughes is-supervising the final arrangements, and Captain Grant is acting as camp-adjutant. Major-General Godley, accompanied by Colonel Hoard and other staff officers, will visit the camp to-morrow morning, for the purpose of witnessing the Service matches, to which the whole day will be devoted.
