Mr and Mns G. Gofdon, of Fiji, and Messrs L. W. Harvey (Sydney) and R. E. Marxe (United States) arrived in Christchurch yesterday.
The Rev A. Mitchell, of Kaiapoi, left yesterday to attend the Methodist Conference at Dunedin. Mr J. H. Blackwell will leave this evening.

Qn the application of Mr A. F. Wright, his Honor Mr Justice Dennis-t-on yesterday admitted Mr Peter Paul Justin Amodeo as a solicitor of the Supreme Court.
Mr Herbert Gray Corbett was yesterday admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court by his Honor Mr Justice Denniston, on the application of Mr J. Cuningham.
Mr T. AV. Stringer, K. 0., who has been appointed President of the Arbitration Court, will bo sworn .in as _ a Judge of the Supreme Court at a sitting of the Court in Christchurch at 11 a.m. to-day.
, Dr James MacDonald, chairman of the Council of the British Medical Association, left for Wellington last night. During his brief stay in the city he met the local members of the Association at dinner.
Sir Joseph Ward left Invercargill for Dunedin by the second express yesterday, telegraphs the Southland correspondent of the “ Lyttelton Times.” He intends addressing a public meeting in Dunedin on Thursday.
The management committee of the New Zealand Cricket Council has appointed D. Reese captain of the New Zealand team which is to meet the visiting Australian team in the first test match at Dunedin on March 6, 7 and 9.
A Press Association telegram from Wanganui states that the Hon James Allen arrived there yesterday on business connected with the Education Department. After a trip up the Wanganui River to-day to open a school at Parikino, he goes on to New Plymouth.
The president of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association (Mr J. C. N. Grig"), the president of,the Industrial Association (Mr J. B. Laureason) and the president of the Chamber of Com(Mr E. G. Staveley) will leave ’for AVellington this .evening: to attend the meeting convened by the Premier on Thursday morning in AVellington, in connection with the Panama Exposition.
Mr C. S. Thomas, the well-known Canterbury amateur athlete and the holder of the New Zealand half-mile championship, was entertained at a dinner at Freeman’s Cafe last night, on the eve of his departure on a. nine months’ trip to England. Mr Frank Saltar presided, and about forty persons were present. The proceedings were very enthusiastic. Mr Thomas was the'recipient of many expressions of the esteem in which he is held in local athletic circles.
