IRON TRADE STRIKE.
FOUNDRIES CLOSED DOWN. EMPLOYERS ISSUE EDICT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. SYDNEY, February 24. “ We- are going to abide by the' law and expect the men to do the same thing.” This sentence from the statement published on behalf of the employers in the iron trades raises the whole issue in the State in connection with this and other strikes. The iron trade is now practically paralysed, and most of the foundries are to all intents and purposes closed down. All contracts for locomotives and water-mains are at a standstill, and steamer repairs aro also stopped. POSITION UNCHANGED. (Received February 25, 12.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, February 24. Excepting tbr a further increase of the unemployed in the iron and affiliated trades, the position is unchanged. Efforts at securing a basis of settlement continue.
