The iron trade is now practically paralysed, and most of the foundries are to all intents and purposes closed down. All contracts for locomotives and water-mains are at a standstill, and steamer repairs aro also stopped. POSITION UNCHANGED. (Received February 25, 12.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, February 24. Excepting tbr a further increase of the unemployed in the iron and affiliated trades, the position is unchanged. Efforts at securing a basis of settlement continue.
