A Government troop train, carrying an infantry company from Mexico City, has been wrecked at Vera Cruz. Tho whole train was demolished, and fifty-five officers and men and the Englishs engineer killed. A ,passenger train following narrowly escaped destruction, the rebels firing on it. BRITISH INTERVENTION. WOULD BE FUTILE AND IMPOLITIC. LONDON, February 23. Mr F: D. Acland, Under-Secretary of Foreign Affairs, in reply to a question in the House of Commons, said that the continued fighting in Mexico was causing the greatest prejudice to British and other countries’ commercial interests. It was a matter of grave concern, but British intervention would be futile and impolitic.
