AMBULANCE DAY.

TO BE HELD ON SATURDAY. THE STATIONS AND PATROLS. At the invitation of Mrs A. E. G. Rhodes, who is in charge of the arrangements, a large number of ladies who have promised their assistance on Ambulance Day met at afternoon tea yesterday at the St John Ambulance Association rooms, to discuss details in connection with the undertaking. After addressing those present for a few moments, Mrs Rhodes called on Mr Treleaven, the secretary of the Christchurch Centre of the Association, to explain the arrangements that had been made.

Mr Treleaven stated that the Association had no fixed revenue and had to exist on subscriptions. Year after year the receipts on Ambulance Day totalled much about the same, and these, with the subscriptions, enkbled the Association to carry on its work a certain distance, but no further. This Association needed money to extend the work into the country. It instructed people in First Aid and Home Nursing, but the fees did not cover the cost of the lectures. In the country, where a knowledge of such work would be very useful, they had not the funds to permit them to carry it out. Mr Treleaven then outlined the procedure for Ambulance Day. Over 12,000 ribbon badges had been prepared, and he anticipated that they would need them all. Arrangements had been made to provide the assistants with luncheon and afternoon tea. The ground to' be covered would be divided into sections and worked in spells as follows: —1 and 2—Morning spells, 8.30 to 11 o’clock and 11 to 1.30 o'clock, when the whole force would concentrate on the busiest portions of the city. Luncheon interval—l.3o to 2 o’clock. 3.—Afternoon spell, 2 to 5 o’clock; Christchurch Sports Grounds, Brighton and Sumner.

4.—Evening spell, 5 to 8 o’clock; city. The following stations and patrols were arranged : —Morning—patrol, Colombo Street from Armagh and Gloucester Streets; table, corner Dominion Buildings; table, Broadway’s corner; table, tramway shelter, Square, south side; table, Post Office boxes, Cathedral Square, and patrol to Riccarton trams; patrol, Cathedral Square between Barnett’s corner and Post Office; table, Barnett’s corner, Cathedral Square, and patrol to Hereford Street; tabic, site of the water tank, south side of Cathedral Square; table, Bank of New Zealand corner, , Hereford • Street; patrol, Hereford Street from Colombo Street to Manchester Street; patrol, Hereford Street from Colombo Street to river; table, Hereford Street, opposite Post Office right-of-way; table, Hereford Street, Barlow’s corner; table, M’Clea’s corner, Colombo-Cashel Streets; patrol, Cashel Street from river to Colombo Street; table, Bank of Australasia, Cashel Street; patrol, High Street from Cashel Street to Hereford Street; table, Cashel Street (Tattersall’s); patrol, Cashel Street.
