[Pbb Press Association..! WELLINGTON, Feb. 22. The Department of Agriculture has issued a second series of illustrated leaflets, dealing with the Bathurst burr. Representations have been made to the Minister for Mines that a number of men aro working in Otago without miners’ rights, and it waa recommended that tho police should be - instructed to hunt them up. The Minister refused to do so. A deputation is about to wait upon the Minister for Justice to urge that steps should bo taken to put down Sunday trading by Chinese and publicans. The Premier desires it to be understood that the Toilemacho legacy duty is not a windfall, in tha sense that it was not expected. On tho contrary, tho amount was known and included in the estimate of the year’s revenue. Already the revenue for tha year will be above the estimate. Mr R. E. Bollaira, a Government surveyor, who has received notice that hia services will be dispensed with at tbe end of the month, has been in the Government employ thirty-throe yeart». Dr Lemon’s report on tho electric lighting of the Government Buildings, Parliament House sad Government House shows that it would bo cheaper to put up a special installation than to obtain light from tbe Electric Company. Tho Minister for Justice has accepted tho resignation of his Commission of the Peace by Mr Welch, of Palmerston North. Ha waa one of those whose action in connection with the forest reserves special settlement waa severely commented on by tho Land Board. Mr Welch, in forwarding hia resignation, explained that he was not aware he was doing wrong in accepting resignations on a blank. The Minister accepted the resignation. Ah the last sitting of the Educational Institute, there were forwarded to the Minister for Education a number of recommendations regarding drawing in schools. To-day tha Hon W. P. Reeves and the Inspector - General of Schools visited some schools, and witnessed several drawing lessons. The chief of tho Stock Department returned from a visit of inspection to the northern portion of the South Island today. Ho reports that the stock is in a satisfactory condition.
