The Hinemoa returned with the Governor’s party from the southern trip at ton o’clock. , The Hutt River is higher than for many years, but there has been no damage except a little earth carried away from the bankß ’ DUNEDIN, Fib. 22.
A Christian Convention was held to-day on the reserve at the north end of the town and attended by about five hundred persons. It in conducted on the lines of the Keswick Convention. At the annual meeting or the District Grand Lodge of tho Good Templar Order resolutions were carried in favour of women’s franchise, giving the people the power of direct veto of the liquor traffic, and of securing the co-operation of all temperance friends in a united scheme.
