AMURI COUNTY COUNCIL.

An ordinary meeting of the Amuri County Council was held at the Waiau Court House on Tuesday, Jan. 3; present—Mr G. W. M'Baa (Chairman), and Messrs Davison. M‘Arthur, Clark, Neville and Wordole. Leave of absence was applied for by Mr J. Maofarlane.

The minutes of the last meeting having been read by the Clerk, Mr Clark desired tc record his dissent from the decision of the Council in accepting the highest tender for the erection of the Public Pound, as he considered that the state of the funds did not justify so large an expenditure. It was proposed by Mr Neville, and seconded by Mr Davison—“That the dogtax for the coming year should be 10s for each dog, and that Mr Dunbar’s offer to supply the collars at same price as last yearbe accepted.’’ Agreed to. A_ somewhat lengthy and irregular discussion then took place on the question of the Waiau Bridge, and after several motions and amendments had been proposed, it war finally resolved—“ That the Chairman be empowered to apply to the Government, asking that steps might be taken to spend the cum voted for the bridge as soon a£ possible.” Mr J. Tinline’s letter re the increase of th e ‘ Clerk’s salary, was then considered, and it was proposed by Mr Davison, and seconded by Mr M‘Arthur— 1 '• That Mr Schroder receive notice that his services, as Clerk, wib not be required after the close of the present quarter, and that he receive the sum of
