[Rbtjtbu'b Tklbgbams.] MELBOURNE, Jan. 5. An unsuccessful attempt was made last night to set fire to the ship Oasis, lying at Sandridge Pier. A quantity of ahavings saturated with resin and kerosene, was found to be on fire on board her, bat was extinguished without any damage being done. The carpenter of the ship is stated to be implicated in the dastardly attempt. Information has been received that | Her Majesty's ships Diamond and 1 Espiegle will shortly relieve the Emerald i and Cormorant on the Australian station. I Arrived—Rotomahana, s.s., from the I Bluff, The English mails were placed I on board the Orient, which sailed today for Plymouth.
