MESSRS JOUBERT AND TWOPENY’S EXHIBITION.

A joint meeting of the Committee of the Industrial Association and of the Committee of citizens recently formed to prepare for Messrs Joubort and Twopeny’s Exhibition, Was held in (ho Industrial Association’s rooms at 7.80 last evening; present—Messrs J. P. P, Jameson (in the chair), H. B. Kirk, E. Ford, 0. P. Hulbert, B. H. Wood, J. B. Sheath, Toomer, Sandstein, W. H Espenett, W. R. Mitchell, B. W. England,.!. 0. Kelsey, H. J. Rose, Hale, A. G. Howland, Glanrille, Berg, W. S. King, and Dr Von Haasfc.

The Chairman laid that at a meeting of the Citizens’ Committee held recently he had laid before that body the resolution of the Industrial Association's Committee passed at last meeting, inviting them to co-operate in preparing for the coming Exhibition. It had been resolved —"That the Citizens’ Committee accept the invitation of the Industrial Association’s Committee to join them in taking steps to secure the desired representation of Now Zealand exhibits at the forthcoming Exhibition," They would see that this was eminently satisfactory, and they had the result before them in the presence of several members of the Citizens’ Committee. He suggested that a sub-Oom-mittee should now bo appointed to undertake any neceesaty executive work. The Chairman then read the names of the members of the amalgamated Committees, which comprehended 44 gentlemen. Mr Boas requested the Chairman to give an outline of the work done by the Citizens’ Committee up to the present time, in order that the meeting might take up the work at the point where it toad been left off. The Chairman explained that the Citizens’ Committee were about to take steps to communicate with the various Industrial Associations in New Zealand on the matter, and had formed a sob-Oommittee to invite gentlemen to secure the representation of particular branches of industry at the Exhibition; but their action had been stayed with a view of amalgamating with the Industrial Association’s Committee, and the meeting might consider that the whole affair could be commanced de novo. Dr Von Haast proposed —" That the members of the Committees who had acted for the late Melbourne Exhibition inNewZealand, and various Industrial Associations throughout the Colony, be requested to take action in their respective centres of population on behalf of the Christchurch International Exhibition." He explained-that, though the Committees that had acted for the Melbourne Exhibition had ceased their labours, yet no doubt the same gentlemen who had composed them would be willing to act for the Christchurch Exhibition. It might not be advisable to communicate both with the Industrial Association and the Exhibition Committee in any one place, but he had included both in bis resolution because one would probably be found where the other was not. Mr Hulbert seconded the resolution. Some discussion followed, in the course of which Dr Yon Haast mentioned that he expected Mr Twopeny would be in town next week, and he could be asked to meet the Committee with a view to arranging details. The motion was carried unanimously. Mr B. H. Wood proposed—“ That a subcommittee, consisting of the President, with Messrs England, Kelsey, and Allan, be appointed to carry out the last resolution." Some discussion followed on the question of expense, some of those present being in favour of the members of the amalgamated Committees contributing pro rata, and others that the Association’s funds could be expended in defraying all reasonable expenses incurred. . Dr Yon Haast explained that the Citizens’ Committee had ceased to exist as a separate body, and would take no further action independent of the Industrial Association’s Committee. Mr J. B. Sheath seconded Mr Wood’s motion, which was eventually carried unanimously. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr England—“ That Messrs Howland, Wood, iand Boss be a sub-Oommittee to suggest the names of gentlemen who would be willing to see to the due representation of each branch of industry." After the transaction of some routine business, the meeting adjourned.
