[Pbb Fbsss Absociatios.] AUCKLAND, Dio. 31. A deputation from the Chamber of Commerce, consisting of the chairman, Mr C. 0. Macmillan, ud several other members, interviewed the Hon F. Whitaker, Attorney Qeneral, for the purpose of presenting and commending to hU attention the resolution passed the other day with respect to the appointment of a New Zealand delegate to the united States in furtherance of the proposed remission of wool duties. Mr Whitaker having heard the deputation, explained that the Government had on the preceding day appointed Sir Henry Burkes, Premier of New South Wales, as its representative at Washington to ootder with the American Government, so that it could not now do anything farther, as the appointment of another gentleman would look like an intentional affront to Sir H. Parkes. If the Chamber of Commerce, however, chose they could send some one. Mr Macmillan said he thought the Government might have consulted the Chambers of Commerce, as it was known they wore moving hot the matter, before committing themselves to any action. Mr Whitaker replied that Mr Creighton had been instructed to give Sir H. Parkes all the assistance in his power. The interview then terminated. James M'Narmy, suffering from delirium tremens, attempted to cut his throat, and was arrested by the police. There are already 30 charges of larceny agaimt Plummer, several people-identifying their property found in his house. Mr Stone, a gentleman of large experience in valuing diamonds in the South African goldfields, is now in Auckland. He believes that our volcanic areas are probably diamondbearing.
