MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
The Ashburton Safe He treat Lodge, 1.0.0. T., held their first anniversary tea meeting on Friday evening, in the Town Hall, when over 100 porno* were present. After tea an entertainment wu given of vocal and instrumental muric, concluding with a dramatic sketch entitled “ The Vacant Chair," which was illustrative of the evil* of intemperance and the contrary good effect* of abstinence. A Lodge in connection with the A.O.D. iu opened on Wednesday evening last, at the West Oxford Town Hall, entitled the Oxford Lodge, So. 141, Twenty-seven candidates were initiated, and about twenty more were proposed. D.F. Bro Samuels opened the Lodge, assisted by the officers of the Lodge. Bto Samuels, in opening the Lodge, stated that three yean ago there wore 800 ‘ Druids La How Zealand, but then won now
over MOO, and that ha had made arrangewent* to open several other Lodges immediately. The following officer* were then elected i—Bro Kn«*haw, A.!), t Hro W. F. Pearson, V.A. j Hro Dobson, Secretary j Hro B. Barker, Treasurer j llro 0, Tabor, 1,0. t Bro Mann, 0.0.; Bros Kiilick and Hart land, A.B.*« i Bros Wallace and Smart, V.B.te. D.V. Bro Samuels installed the officers in a very impressive manitcr. After passing a hearty tola of thank* to D.P. Bro .Samuels .and officer* of the Banglora Lodge, the proceeding* terminated.
