OXFORD HORTICULTURAL AND POULTRY ASSOCIATION SPRING SHOW.
President—John B. Gorton, Esq. j VicePresidents— Mr D. Bladdon, Mr A. Nalder, Dr Weld, Mr Joseph Pearson.
The third show of this society was held in the Town Hall, West Oxford, on Tuesday. The hall was decorated with a number of tree ferns, for which Oxford bush is celebrated, and a very good collection of other sorts was displayed roand the walls. Considering the unfavourable season, the Committee are to be congratulated on the very creditable number of exhibits. In the pot plants, Mr Nalder was as usual the largest prize-taker, and a cactus shown by him was worthy of special mention. The fuchsias shown by T. Marsh, Mrs Paget, and A. Smith were very good. In the cut flowers, a fine arum, shown by Mrs Firman, was much admired. The roses were not up to the mark, owing to the weather, but the exhibit of Mrs Elliot may be excepted. There was a very fair show of vegetables, but here again the dry ess of the season told its tale, and the fruit would have been better a month later. A special prize given by Mr Eneetbaw for the best hand-bouquet, by an unmarried lady, was the subject of keen competition, eleven entries being made. It was taken by Miss Beston. Mr Lough showed a very good collection of cacti, consisting of 20 different varieties, some of which were very curiou. Mr Ivory, of Bangiora, and Mr J. W.
