ST ALBANS MAYORAL ELECTION.

The nomination* for the office of Mayor of the newly proclaimed Borough of kt Alban* were received yesterday at noon. The only candidate nominated wa» the Hon J. T. Peacock, and the Reluming-Gfllecr (Mr W. F. Bcatson) declared that gentleman duly elected Mayor of St Albans for the ensuing year. The announcement wag received with cheer* from those present. The Hon J. T. Peacock thanked the barsesse*5 esse* of 8b Alban* for the honour they had one him in choosing him a* the lint Mayor of their Borough, Ho had not sought the office himself, but had yielded to the solicitation* of the ratepayer* to accept it. If he had not so full a Knowledge of the duties of the position to which be had been elected, he would endeavour to ascertain what those duties were, and they might rely on his doing his best for the advancement of the new Borough, and filling the important position in which they bad placed him to the best of hi* ability. (Cheers.) Nominations for Councillors and Auditors for the Borough of St Albans will close today at noon. The election of Councillor! will take place on Deo. 22, and that of Auditors on Deo 23.

It may be noted that the number of ratepayers of the Borough is considerable, 742 being already on the roll.
