Lally, Gr. Cotterill, C. Bowen, and H. W. Harper; Messrs. Acland, Barkery ■Blakiston, Bowen, Hall, Hamilton, Pottsy Ross, Scott, Thomson, Tprlesse, arid Wylde.: • Prayers were read by; the Bishop. The report of'the "committee on.'istan'ding. orders was' then reacl:'.by Mr. Ross, the lay secretary; a.nd on the motion of Mr. Hall, seconded by "Mr. Thomson/ was received.
It was then decided that'the clauses of the proposed standing orders shouldbe read and: considered seriatim, which was done, '•Mr.Hall stating1 that they were in all essential; respects sinlilar, to- those of the Generai-Synod; at Wellington. :.- . : ■ ,•■■•'.. ' . . ■'.-:• , -Clause 3, having -to'the:prcrposed hours and days ?on which.' the synod should sit, having1 beeirmoved for adoption by -Mr.'; Hall, some discussion, in which Messrs. Hall, Thomson, arid Hamilton "took part, arose,' and after motions by,>Revi. ;; W/^V'illo(ck';'and.-Hr^ Thomson, it ;was finally •moyed by Rev. ;C. Alabaster, and seconded by Rev, H. Jacobs, .that'the, whole -of•.•'•this -clause, as. amended, •and including the days and- hours of meeting1, namely from 6| p.m. -to 10 p;m. on Monday, Tuesday, and TliUTsdajf, and from noon "till1 ■4: p;m. on and Friday in each ;week, be adopted.-Carried, ; ■ •On clause 23, which provided for appoint-; fments of select committees, being moved by ■Mr. Hall and seconded by Mr. Thomson, some discussion ensued"; when it was finally proposed by Mr. Ross and seconded by Mr.; ; Hall, that clause 23 of the proposed s'tandmg 1 orders be referred back to the committee for reconsideration. Mr. Thomson, in two, resolutions, seconded by the Yen. Archdeacon Mathias, moved, Ist, that a -committee..be.-.appointed- to prepare: draft regulations; .for the future election of representatives- in the synod ■; 2nd, that such committee shall consist of 'the Yen. Archdeacon Mathifts, Revds. Wilson'/ Jacobs, and Willock, and Messrs..Hall, Bowen,' a,nd the mover. These names, with the resolutions, were adopted as they stood.' .'.■ . The next motion, of which notice had' been given, was that of Mr. Wylde, who proposed that a committee be appointed to
report on the present division, of the province into parishes, and to suggest iterations in the same. Seconded by Rev. W. W. Willock,' and carried. It was ; then moved by 1 Mr. Wylde, and seconded by Rev, W. W. Willock, that such committee consist of Veri. Archdeacon Mathias, Revd?. W. W. Willock, ■, and G. Cotterill, and Messrs. Hamilton, Potts, Acland, and the mover. Carried. Mi. Hamilton's motion was nexton the list, and. was to the effect, that a committee be appointed to report on the > appointment of nominators for the election of .clergy of ' /acant cures, in conformity with statutes Nos. i 4 and 6 of the late General Synod. Seconded by Rev. J; Raven. Put and carried. It was then moved by Mr. Hamilton, and . seconded \ylr. Wylde, that the committee consist of Revds. Mr. Lally and 'H.'.W. J. Wilson, Clerical Secretary, and were confirmed. •The Rev. James Wilson proposed that a Teller to the Synod should be appointed, for the recording of votes on divisions, &c. After some discussion on a motion of. MrHall's for the appointment of: two tellers on the part of the clergy and laity respectively, ; which, having be en seconded by Mr.Torlesse, was,put -and negatived, a proposal by Mr. Wylde. that Dr. Barker should be appointedteller/was;secoridedby Rev. ' Archdeacon Mathias, much discussion and some confusion arose touching "the fday and hour to which the House, should adjourn. "Finally, a motion by Rev. H. W. Harper, seconded by Rev. H. Jacdbs, that the house (do adjourn till to-morrow, Tuesday, at halfpast 6, p.m., was carried on division, and the house-a't half-past'B adjourned accordingly.
