in the 'New Zealand Gazette,' of the 18th November, 1858, p. 156,^- ---" Notice to mariners. Pencarrow Lighthouse. Notice is hereby given that on and after the Ist day of January next, a new light will be exhibited on Pencarrow Head at the entrance of Port Nicholson, (Wellington), Cook'a Strait, New Zealand. The new light will be of the second order (Catadioptric system) with eclipses at intervals of two minutes; it will be 420 feet above high water mark, and visible in ordinary weather at a distance of thirty English miles. The following are the magnetic bearings and distances of the site of ihe new lighthouse. From Baring Head, N.W. by N., Z\ miles. From Sinclair Head, E. by N. half N. 6* miles. From Outer Rock of Barret's Reef, S.E. by E. half E., One mile. From Staple Rock, S.S.E., two miles. From Cape Campbell, N.N.E. quarter E., 33 miles. The lighthouse is in Latitude 410 22' 0 S., Longitude 1740 51' 15" E."

It is hereby notified that the Government have received information that on and after the \stdayof September next the light exhibited since the Ist day of January last, on Pencarrow Head, at the entrance of Port Nicholson (Wellington), Cook's Strait, New Zealand, will be a fixed light and not subject to eclipse at intervals of two minutes, as described in the above notice.
