Markets.
•; The arrivals of the last few; days have been numerous and,, rather; ; important. We have had tfie- Malay-and^Mirbjiioness from Melbourne, yi4 other New Zealand parts, but bringing on here by far,the greater portion"of their'respective cargoes, which comprise general merchandize, including a fair proportion of liquids, teas and.sugars. We hav6 also had the Hebe from Newcastle with 250 tons of cargo, besides the two steamers and sundry coasting craftsjbringing supplies from the neighbouring provinces. In'the whple, the imports for the fortnight, including the Mystery, have been large and valuable.. On the other hand the exports have ieeit, almost exclusively confined to the direct shipments of wool, as almost every vessel leaving the port at present goes in ballast, or with only a few cheeses, &c. ,;> ■..::: '^ Business.. generally is as brisk as usual, auction sales of general. JuerchandizeLbeing well attended, and the goods offered going off freely, Horsk & Stock Market.—Mr. Fawdingtdtf and Mr. Guinness report as follows :— A lot of horses imported per Lord Ashley steamer were offered by auction on Saturday, together' with a few others ; fifteen were knocked down at prices varying from £29 to £55, producing about an average rate of £35 per head. The horses being in poor condition, we consider they;^ent off.viery fairly. With this exception all the transactions in the horse market during the past week have been by private contract. Mr. McClymont's lot are being disposed of privately and we hear that a considerable number, have found purchasers, mostof the horsesWngpf a superior stamp, and such as have been wanted here ; they are consequently realizing good prices. [■ We. have enquiries for first class hackneys, \ivip. a;decrease is to be noticed in the demand for heavy draught horses. In both cases sellers are not.yet inclined to accede to the reduction that purchasers expect.
