Markets.
There is little or nothing to report as regards mercantile matters this week. Wool continues to pour into Lyttelton with a rapidity too great for the stowing powers of the ships now loading. Great activity is consequently apparent among all connected with this department of trade.
Among sales we notice one of spirits, wines, and ale, by Mr. Barnard, in Christchurch, on Friday 'last. The competition was by no means spirited. Old torn fetched 10s. per gallon; pale brandy, Us.; three qr.-casks of sherry fetched 7s. Gd., Bs. Cd, and 9s. per gallon respectively; ,and bottled beer 12s. per dozen, delivered in Christchurch.
Horse and Stock Market.—Mr. Fnwdington and Mr. Guinness report as follows:—There is very little movement at present in the horse market; few transactions came under our notice last week. We sold a few inferior horses at low prices, but nothing of note to mark any change in the market. Mr. Parkinson sold a few horses at auction, among which we noticed a good and well-known old draught horse, which realised i>9o. A good promising two-year-old colt was offered, but found no bidders. Since the sale of horses ex Lion the market has been very dull.
