SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
We have Adelaide journals to the 6th Inst^* from which we make the following extracts:—. '
We hasten with tho utmost pleasure to inIW our readers that the whole of the necessary f ß^ for carrying on the gold quartz crushing jj Echungahave been raised, and that operations^, large scale will immediately commence. We fo T4 for several days past, urgtently recommended tfc prosecution of this enterprise j but our most g}J guine expectations have been exceeded in respect of the spontaneous zeal of the public. It will be re. merabered that the Sold1 Quartz-crushing Compaq at first proposed to. raise £30,000 in shares, o f which half were to be reserved for the lessees of the auriferous reef, and the other half to be ofiired to the public. This however, did not meet with public favour, although much might be said in fo. half of the proposition, were that our present dut? But another view of the, matter has supervene^ The lessees, of the gold reef propose- a new com. pany, with sixty-four shares of £100 each, of which the lessees-retain thirty-two, and offer to' the public the remaining thirty-two at par. The whole of this number was sold during yesterday and the day before, and the list of shareholder (which we have seen), comprises the names of some of the most influential, wealthy, and distinguished citizens. Hitherto, the want of money was the only difficulty, now that difficulty has disappeared. The auriferous land will be immediately fenced in] and the machinery,, nearly all of wfoieh can be got in Adelaide, will be put up with the least possible delay. We anticipate great good from this move. ment. Echunga will yet rank with the renranera. tive gold-fields of Australia; and our drooping trade revive and brighten at the touch of the vat versal enchanter.-— Advertiser, .
