PROVINCE OP CANTERBURY TO WIT: AVON DISTRICT. WHEREAS a Writ under the hand of William Sefton Moorhouse, Esq., Superintendent of the said Province, bearing date the 18th day of September, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-eight, hath been directed to me, Ihomas Rowley-, Esq., as Returning Officer for the Avon District, in the said Province, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected by and from the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, one person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council for the Avon District, in place of Richard Woodford, Esq., resigned. Now, therefore. I, the said Thomas Rowley, Returning Officer for the Avon District, do hereby, in pursuance of the said recited writ, give notice that a public meeting of the electors of the Avon District will be holden at Gregg's Barn, Riccarton, in the Avon District, on Friday the loth day of October next, at noon, for the purpose of nominating one person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council for the Avon District, and in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall' take place on Saturday the 16th day of October next, at the School-House at Papanui, and Gregg's Barn, Riccarton.
