TURKEY.
Hostilities had broken out between the Turks and Montenegrins, and the latter were reported to have, gained some important advantages. There were apprehensions that - the Austrian* would interfere on the part ofthe Montenegrins, and that in such event the other powers would be compromised. France is very angry at Turkey, and there seems to be a probability of an overthrow of the last treaty, and plunge the European powers again into new complications. England proposes commissioners to draw up a territorial settlement "having for its basis the status quo existing at the time of the Congress of Paris." It is hoped that all the powers will agree to so moderate a proposal. The 'Times'* gives the following telegram, dated Vienna (May 13), afternoon:—" There has been a battle at Grahovo, between the Turks on one side and the Montenegrins arid the Heryegovine rajahs on the other. The latter had 50 men killed and 70 wounded. The loss of the Turks.is not known. GrahovoTwas burnt by its inhabitants."
