To the Editor of the Lyttelton Times. 'Sik,—Another attempt is now being made by the combined action of the butchers to increase their profits to an extent quite uncalled for on their part. They no sooner find things very quiet and no threatened opposition at hand than •they use their opportunity of mulcting the pub3ic. How is it that the opposition, threatened •some months since has reserved its quietus? Are the public any longer to be duped in this way? Will no spirited individual come forward and ; suppress these goings on by supplying the necessary capital to those who would, effectually ;prevent a recurrence of them? The butchers have hitherto conducted their ■"business very unfairly towards their readymoney customers, who are made to pay the -same price as those who run long accounts; this I consider is very unjust, not only to the public, but to themselves also; but some persons are fond of having a goodly sum in their ledger, and the ready-money customer, is made to pay .the deficiency caused by the bad debt& of others. I remain, yours, &c, FAIR PLAY. Lyttelton, August 10.
