HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.
LAND OEDEKS AND SCKIP BILL. On the 12th instant, on the motion of Dr. Monro, "that the petition.of the Provincial Council of Nelson be referred to a Select Committee for their report thereon — the Committee to. consist of the honourable the Colonial Treasurer, Mr. Speaker, Mr. Carleton, Mr. Brown, Mr. Ollivier, Mr. Taylor, and the Mover," —a long debate ensued, chiefly by Southern members, which gradually merged into the question of the adjustment of the burdens imposed upon the provinces of the Middle Island by the Act of last Session, and the dry and intricate scrip question. The motion was agreed to, after the names of Mr. Cargill and Mr. Hall had been substituted for those of Mr. Ollivier and Mr. Taylor. At a subsequent period tlie House went into Committee on the Land Orders and Scrip Bill, and the debate on Dr. Monro's motion was resumed for upwards of three hours. The question was then put, and the House divided :— Ayes—4. Messrs. Curtis, Forsaith, Weld, Monro (teller.) Noes —14. Messrs. Brown, Brodie, Cargill, Domett, Moorliouse, Ollivier, Packer^ Richmond, Stafford, Taylor, Lee, Ward, Williamson, Hall (teller.)
