LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

WASTE LAXDS. In the Legislative Council, on the 6th inst. Mr. Tancred asked the Attorney-General " what course the Government propose to pursue in carrying out the existing law with regard to future legislation affecting the Waste Lands of the Crown, and more particularly Avhether the Government propose to give any practical operation to the Waste Lands Act 1854, after the disallowance of the Waste Lands Act 1856, by the Imperial Government, will induce the Government to modify the present operation of the Financial Resolution. No. 12, transfering the administration of the Waste Lands of each Province to the Provincial Government of such Province." The Attorney-General, in answer to the question, stated that the legislation over Waste Lands was a subject of almost daily deliberation with the Government; and that "Ministers intend to bring in a Bill on this subject before the end of the session. With regard to the latter part of the question he did not see how, under existing circumstances, it would be possible to withdraw the administration of the Waste Lands of each "Province, from the Provincal Government. He .could-not.--at-the present time enter into the details of the proposed Bill. They would be considered when the Bill itself should be laid before ; the Council.
