Correspondence.

To ihe Editor of the Lyttelton Times. j Sir,—A fortnight since I addressed you as to what had been accomplished in steam navigation by the Planet, her having made her maiden trip up the Heathcote as far as Christchurch Quay under very promising circumstances; since which time I have read of her in your paper under the name of "Royal Mail Steamer!" Surely the purport of my observations cannot have caused the directors to assume that name for their little v . pet, orto have fallen into the disreputable error of puffing,—for in a small community like this such a method of advertising can-be of no avail to the company in a pecuniary way. A tradesman having a large quantity of unsaleable goods on hand generally as a last resource resorts to puffing to catch the unwary, enlightened persons avoiding such traps! Why then not let the little steamer remain under the humble name of Planet, without the additional words Royal Mail? which appears to me like the.gilt giftge'rbread at an English fair, standing out in bold arelief in front of the stalls to catch the eye; .while the really good article appears without

any ornament. I think, therefore,' that the sooner the company doff the " Royal Mail" the better, or we shall certainly have bur neighbors at Auckland, Wellington, &c, laugh at us.

I remain, sir, Yours obediently, VERITAS.

June 7th, 1858.
