INDIAN BELIEF FUND. AT a Public Meeting held in the Town Hall. ■ Christchureh, on Thursday evening, the 18th instant, his Honor the Superintendent in the chair, to consider the beat steps to be taken for raising a fund for the relief of the sufferers in India, the following resolutions were unanimously adopted:— Moved by the Bishop of Cheistchtjbch : seconded by the Pbovincial Seceetaey :— 1. " That this meeting, taking into consideration the calamitous events in India, by which so many of our fellow subjects have been suddenly plunged into the deepest distress, desires to express its heart-felt sympathy with the sufferers." Moved by the Hon. H. J. Tancbkd: seconded by the Yen. Aechdeacon op Akaeoa :— 2. " That it is desirable to raise contributions in this province in aid of the fund which is now being collected in England and in other parts of the world for the relief of the widows and orphans and others who have been suddenly rendered destitute by the disasters attending tho mutiny in India." Moved by R. Packeb, Esq. : seconded by the Rev. J. Aldbed :— 3. " That a committee be appointed for the purpose of collecting subscriptions for the above object, to consist of hi 3 Honor the Superintendent, the Lord Bishop of Christchureh, and other gentlemen, with power to add to their number." Moved by J. Beittan, Esq. : seconded by T. Cass, Esq. : _ 4. " That the committee be authorised to use their own discretion as to the best means of transmitting the fund collected by them."
