Markets.
HOBART TOWN. (From the Mercury, Feb. 12.)
No particular animation was perceptible in the grain market yesterday, but business wa9 steady throughout. Wheat is firm at Bs. per bushel the best samples, with no mention of a declining tendency. A few small lots of colonial oats have come into the market lately, and realized from 6s to 6s 6d according to the sample. Foreign oats sell at 5s to 5s 6d, but not much is doing. Some Cape^barley was sold, but being a very inferior sample, the lot fetched a very low figure; the average quotations may be given at 6s to 6s 6d per bushel. The demand for hay continues very brisk, and the supplies come in pretty fa9t; prices continue firm, loose hay still ranging from £5 10s to £7 15s per ton according to quality; country pressed from £8 to £8 10s ; and thehydraulic pressed is quoted at £9. Very little is doing in potatoes, which are very scarce as yet: the prices are quoted at £7 10s to £11 per ton according to the sample. There was a dullness apparent in the flour market to-day, but the quotations remain unaltered. Flour from the best colonial wheat remains at £18 to £20 per ton according to quantity. Bran is still quoted at 2s 3d to 2s 6d per bushel, and sharps continue at £10 to. £12 per ton.
ENGLISH MONEY MARKET, &C
The ' Times,' (28th Nov.,) says the funds had again shown extreme buoyancy, and a further rise of £ per cent, had been exhibited. .Indian Stock was in increased demand, and Exchequer bills closed at 5s discount, to par. In the discount market the tendency to restoration of confidence is again manifesting itself. The influx of gold at the Bank steadily continues. There is no reference in any of the papers to the wool market, but the accounts from the manufacturing districts are discouraging.
SYDNEY.
The 'Sydney Morning Herald' of the 6th, reports of the import market:— Flour.—The market is inanimate, and prices continue without alteration. The millers quote fine flour at £17 per ton; seconds, £15 do.
Liquids.—Brandy remains pretty quiet at 16s to 16s 6d; rum is a little flatter. In wines there has been no transaction of any importance, and prices are nominal.
