TO THE ELECTOES OP THE HEATHCOTE DISTRICT. rj ENTLEMEN,—I have the honor to offer V-J myself as a Candidate for a seat in the Provincial Council as one of your representatives. Having been a colonist here from the earliest days of the settlement, and .having discharged the duties of Emigration Agent for a period of two years in England, I am personally known to nearly all of you. In the hope that my conduct in these two capacities has been such as to render me worthy of your confidence, I have been induced to come forward on the present occasion, and now venture to solicit the honor of your support. I have the honor to be, gentlemen, Your most obedient servant, E. J. S. HAEMAN. TO THE ELECTOES OF THE AVON DISTRICT. HAVING- represented the Christchurch Country District in the Provincial Council from the first election of that body, I now offer myself as a candidate to represent you in the next Council, as I feel that I am more peculiarly connected with the electors of the Avon Dis : trict than with any other portion of my former constituency. In_requesting your support upon the present occasion, I can only say that, should you do me the honor to elect me, I shall, as I have hitherto dope, endeavour to promote the interests of this district as well as of the Province at large. My public conduct will be influenced now as formerly by a conviction that the duties of a ! Member of the Provincial Council consist in promoting practical improvements rather than in discussing political theories. I may refer to the discharge of my duties as Speaker of the late Council as a guarantee for due attention to the business which may be entrusted to me as your representative. TITHEREAS a Writ under the hand of W Thomas Gore Browne, Esq., Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over the Islands of New Zealand, &c, &c, bearing date the Fourteenth day of July, in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty-Seven,hath been directed to me, John Watson, as Returning Officer of the Akaroa District, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected by the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, three legally qualified persons to serve as Members of the Provincial Council for the said Akaroa District: Now, therefore, I, the said John Watson, Returning Officer for the said Akaroa District, do hereby, in pursuance of the said recited Writ, give notice that a Public Meeting of the electors of the said Akiiroa District will be holden at the Court House, Akaroa, on Monday, the 2nd day of November next, at noon, for the purpose of nominating three persons to serve as Members of the Provincial Council for the said Akaroa District; and in the event of a poll being demanded for the Candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place on Thursday, the sth day of November next, at the Court House, at Akaroa; at the School House, Pigeon Bay; and at Mr. Tuson's House, Okain-'s Bay. The voting to commence at any time after 9 o'clock, a.m. of the said sth day of November, and to close at 4 o'clock, p.m. of .the same day. JOHN WATSON, Eeturning Officer. TO THE ELECTORS OP THE KAIAPOI AND EANGIOEA DISTEICT. /^1 ENTLEMEN,—At the request of a large \JC number of the Electors of this District, I beg to offer myself as a Candidate for your representation in the next Provincial Council. Should you do me the honour to elect me, I shall give my cordial support to every measure caloulated to develop the resources and promote the interests of the province generally, and give my special attention to the claims of this important district. ENTLEMEN,—Though I have revX\ ceived no requisition, I have yet been solicited by many of the electors to come forward as a candidate for the representation of the City in the next Provincial Council. After mature deliberation I have resolved to comply with this request, and have now the honour to announce myself as a candidate accordingly. Should you elect me I pledge myself to do my utmost for the general prosperity of the Province, and of Christchnrch in particular. I am the representative of no class; my own individual interests, (which are what men generally look to,) being bound ap, and identified with those of every class in the community.
