The Supreme Court of Ohio has decided a slave case in direct opposition to that of the United States Supreme Court in the "Dred Scott ■case. They have .adjudged Henry Poindexter free, on the ground that' neither Ohio nor Kentucky can demand an abrogation of the constitution and laws of the other; and, if a Kentucky slave comes into Ohio by the consent of the owner,' the constitution and laws of Ohio Operate on the condition of such-person, and effect his immediate emancipation. The constitution de•clares that if a person held to service in' one .State escapes into another, he shall be given up. In this case Poindexter did not escape, but was sent into Ohio by his master. This case is •.therefore not covered by the constitution; and he became entitled to the full benefit of the express prohibition of slavery in Ohio, and was to all intents and purposes free.
