CAPE OF GOOD HOPE.
.-« By the latest papers received from the Cape to the 20th of June," says the Port Louis 'Overland Commercial, Gazette,' "we learn that three successive sterins did considerable damage to shipping. The following vessels were driven on shore and wrecked:—Newport, St. Helena, Isabella, Gitana, Rory Brown, Jessie, M'Farlane, Christobel, William James, and Ellen Eawson. No lives were lost, but the storms are considered to have been the severest on record at that place for several years.'"
Prom the same source we have Cape news to the 4th of July. It appears that six of the members for the Eastern provinces had resigned because the Parliament has refused to admit their claim to separation.
The Cape Parliament was prorogued by the Governor the 29th June. The Governor and Lady Grey -were about to leave for the frontier. All was quiet in that direction.
A bill had passed for a railway from Cape Town to Wellington, cost not to exceed £500,000.
