Same day, schooner Canterbury, 37 tons, Bowten, from Wellington. SAILED. Sept. 30, schooner James Gibson, 138 tons, Mennie, for Sydney. Passengers, J. E. Fitz Gerald, Esq., Mrs. Fitz Gerald, and 3 children, and Miss Hooper. . Oct. 1, ship Solent, for Shanghae. IMPOSTS. In the Kate Kearney, R. Waitt & Co., agents; 5 bales and 1 truss drapery, 1 case vestas, 100 bags sugar, Dransfield; 134 cedar boards, Union Bank; 20 kegs nails, 1 package, Alport; 3 half-tierces tobacco, Robinson; 40 casks bread, Cookson, Bowler, and Co.; 1 case Geneva, 1 cask bottled beer, 2 hhds. rum, 10 boxes soap, 2 bales bl-inkets, 1 qr.-cask brandy, 1 qr.-cask port wine, 1 qr.-cask sherry, 3 cases champagne, 1 cask hams, 25 boxes candles, 2 bales wool packs, 7 trusses hay, order. The Canterbury and Kate Kearney arrived 3esterday afternoon, having left Wellington on Wednesday evening. The Kate Kearney brings advices from Sydney to the 17th ult.

The Mountain' Maid, from this port, arrived at Sydney ou the 22nd August; she was obliged to take refuge in Botany Bay on the 20th, owing to the severity of the gale from the eastward. The William Alfred from Wellington on the 25th July, and from Nelson on the Bth August, arrived at Sydney on the 25th August; she was off Sydroey heads on Thursday, 20th August, but, owing to the heavy easterly gale, Captain Tinely deemed it prudent to run for Port Stephens, where he anchored on Sunday. The Dart, hence, arrived in Sydney on the 10th September. The following vessels are advertised for the south of New Zealand in the Sydney papers of the 2Sth August. For Wellington direct the Surprise, to sail Ist September, and William Alfred with despatch. For Nelson and Port Cooper the Taranaki. and Mountain Maid. For Otagothe Content. The Southern Cross arrived in Wellington about the 22nd ult.

The Polly, brig, was wrecked at Taranaki on the 19th ult.

The Retriever Claims for total loss, upon goods and sheep, shipped in this vessel, at Newcastle, for Bluff Harbour, New Zealand, were made yesterday, at the Office of the New South Wales Marine Insurance Company. The vessel was insured at Hobart Town, and we understand a claim for her loss has been made there. The Retriever sailed from Newcastle for the Bluff Harbour about the 24th of April, and by the Camilla, arrived last week, with dates to July 20th, there are no advices of her arrival at her destination. The Tasmania also reports that the Ketriever had not arrived on the 16th of July, up to which date advices had reached Hobart Town. There is too much reason to fear, therefore, that the rumour which was circulated in Sydney, and published in this journal on the 11th ultimo, to the effect that she was caught in a sudden squall off Cape Howe, is too true, — S.
