Correspondence.

To the Editor of the Lyttelto-n Times. Sir, —Allow me, through your paper, to caution North country hullock drivers against the treacherous st;ite of the laiest government improvements. I allude to the place known by the name of Brown's bridge, at the back of the Mhniainoko Downs, (or »ome such name,) Double Corner. ' 'The wor . done is ftiai'e to deceive the eye, while .at the same time endeavour has been made to please it. In coming over it lately, three drays in company, the first1 got over well enough, though the wheels cut considerably over the fellies; the second, in following, thougirkeeping as near as possible the same course as the first, excepting avoiding the ruts in ide by the first,-got the near side wheel embedded half way up the nave, and, had there not been plenty of bullreks in the three teams, thee it would have stuck for some considerable rinie.there not being sufficient room to work on the toad, unless at the''imminent risk of breaking the dray])dle. Our lingiueer-in-chief does not appear to have benefited by the experience suggested by the work done last year on the Wcka creek, when a large portion of the money expended was subsciibed by the Settlers on this line of road, which was almost useless, one driver alone using it (doing so for the good reason of his not being able to »et his bullocks up the pass), and he ou one occasion'nearly losing a very valuable bullock. I state these particulars knowing them to be true, and also, that they can bear investigation. Pray excuse this, perhaps, to some, unintelligible letter, but what can you expect from one who has the honour to Subscribe himself

Yourobedient Servant, A BULLOCK DRIVER? K^iapoi, March 2nd, 1857.
