f^eto %ftbrrtisfrmente.NOTICE, Province of Canterbury to Wit: — WHEREAS a writ under the hand of James Edward Fitz Gerald; Esq., Superintendent of the said Province, bearing data the Bth day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty seven, hath been directed to me, Charles Christopher Bowen, Esq., as Returning-Officer for the Christchurch Country District, in the said Provine 2, requiring and commanding me to cause to he elected, by and from amongst the voters duly qualified for that/purpose, freely and. indifferently, and in form and manner by law prescribed, One Person to.serve as a member of the ProTincial Council for the Christchurch Country District, in the place of r William Bay ley Bray, Esq., resigned ; NOW therefore I, the said Charles Christopher Bowen, Esq., ReturningOfficer for the Christchurch Country District, do hereby, in pursuance of the said recited Writ, give notice that.a Public Meeting of the Elecr. tors of the Christchurch Country District will be holden at the offices of the Provincial Grt - vernment .in; the town, of; Christenurch; on Thursday, the 29th day of- January instant, at 11 o'clock, a.m., for the, purpose of nominating One Person to serve as a'member of the Provincial Council, for the Christchurch Country District,, and in the event; of a poll, being demanded for the candidates, or any of them, such; polling shall take place on Friday, the 30th day of January, in the lobby of the Provincial Council Chamber at Christchurch ; in the Police Officei.at Lyttelton;: and at Mr. Black's stora, Kaiapoi.
