MELBOURNE.
The ' Age' of the 18th reports the flour market as follows :— The flour market has not assumed a livelier aspect to-day. First brands of Adelaide flour "brought £16 ss. per ton. The flour, however, had a mealy touch, and cannot he considered a fair sample. Seconds, of the Exeter Mills Brand, realised £15 10s., and seconds bearing the Emerald brand'1 was sold so low as £9 los. Besides the inferiority of the articles sold, we may justly assume that the market is influenced by the arrival in the bay of at least 400 tons of American flour. As we prognosticated a few days ago, the demand for oats increases. Messrs. Tenuent this day disposed of large
quantities at various prices. Fine samples of Tasmanian oats were sold at 7s. 6d , 7s. 7d., and 7s. 9d. per bushel. A lot of Scotch cats were sold at a very low figure, but as they were heated we cannot quote the price as a market rate. Upon the whole the consignee was no loser by to-day's sales, so far as oats are concerned. Barley and maize, are not in demand.
