Christchurch Country District, in the said Province, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected, by and from amongst the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in form and manner by law prescribed, One Person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council for the Christchureli Country District, in the place of John Hall, Esq., resigned; NOW therefore, I, the said Charles Christopher Bowen, Esq., Keturning-officer for the Christchureli Country District do hereby in pursuance of the said recited writ, give notice that a public meeting of the electors of the Christchureli Country District, will be holden at the offices of the Provincial Government in the town of Christchurch, on Monday, the 22nd day of December, inst., at 11 o'clock, a.m., for the purpose of nominating one person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council, for the Christehurch Country District, and in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place on Tuesday, the 23rd day of December, in the lobby of the Provincial Council Chamber, at Christchureli; in the Police office at Lyttelton; and at Mr. Black's Store, Kaiapoi. WHEREAS it has been represented to the Commissioners of the Waste Lands Board' that parties are unlawfully cutting timber on Banks' Peninsula, Talhot and Harewood forests, and other parts of the province. NOTICE is iieeeby givex, that any person found ? cutting timber on any of the Waste lands of the Crown, without a license previously obtained*; from this Board, will be proceeded against in pursuance of the Regulations now in force within this province.
