Christchurch, April 26, 1856
My dearFit'z Gerald, —I have to acknowledge the receipt of your note of Tuesday, acquainting me with the intention of the Provincial Government to propose, in the new Waste Land Regulations, that the administration shall rest in a Board, instead of a single Commissioner, as at Auckland and Otago, and asking whether in the event of this proposal being carried, it would suit mj convenience to accept the double office of Chief Commissioner and Treasurer, to which you say you would be prepared to propose irn' appointment.
I have to thank you for the offer, and in the event of the plan being adopted, should certainly have no objection to fall in with the arrangements you propose.
Believe me, yours truly, W. G. Bhutan.
