It.will.be observed that the Superintendents of the six Provinces have all been elected. Their simultaneous presence at Auckland will be found ; most convenient during the next session of the General Assembly. The meeting of the Superintendents with each other and with the Representatives of the people from the different Provinces, will go farther towards a cordial co-operation between the different Governments of New Zealand thsm anything else would. Out of the thirty-seven members" who compose the House of Representatives, only twelve were members of the last House ; there is therefore plenty of room for anxiety as to the opinions and capacity of many untried men. In looking over the list, however, our readers will recognize thy names of several gentlemen who were known in New Zealand for their ability before the House of Representatives was in existence

at all. A popular House under a fiee icon. stitution will give a new teope tv ibeir energies. It would be worae than unelett to mstke vague conjectures as'to'their merits as Representatives, before they have been tried in that capacity. While on the subject of the General Assembly we may state on good authority that His Excellency haß offered, and that Mr. Tancred has accepted, a seat in tha Legislative Council; in which during thefirst two sessions Canterbury was entirely unrepresented.

We call the attention of our rerders to the statement of the assets and liabilities of the. Lyltelton Savings' Bunk for the first quarter, advertised in our columns to-day. Ills gratifying to find that thin Society basalready become useful; and we have no doubt that when the existence of such an institution is more generally known among the working population of Canterbury, itß operations will be greatly increased. , The opportunity it offers for the investment of weekly savings, thereby inducing habits of sobriety and carefulness, cannot be too highly valued. We understand that this institution will shortly be proclaimed under the ,Ne w Zealand Savings' Bank Ordinance, and then it is intended to extend its usefulness by the appointment of District Trustees in the several towns of the Province.

The annual General Meeting of the Canterbury Loan Society took place on Tuesday last, and was numerously attended by the shareholders. The Balance sheet (see advertisement) and report of the proceedings during the past year appeared to give general satisfaction. From these documents we find that the Society has now increased their capitaljto upwards of £1000, which, we understand, has all been advantageously employed. The dividend declared for the past year was £15 per cent, besides making an addition to the *4 .Rest Fund," which now. exceeds £200.
