Province of Canterbury to Wit:— nptT^j^^^ a writ under the hand of ▼ V James Edward Fitz Gerald, Esq., Superintendent of the>said Province, bearing date the 12th day of February, in tlie year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty five, , hatli been directed to^ne, Charles Simeon, Esq. as retuniing-officer for the town of Chrislchnrch in thesaid Province, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected by and from amongst the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely ■ and indifferently, and in., form and manner by law prescribed^ One Person to serve as'-a member of the Provincial Council for the town of Christchurch, in place of Thomas Cass, Esq;, resigned; NOW .therefore,' I, the said Charles Simeon, Esq., returning-officer for tiie town of Christchurch, do hereby in pursuance of the said recited writ, give notice, that a public meeting of the electors of the town of Christchurch will be holden in the Market Place of the town of Christchurch, on Thursday, the Sth day of March, nest, at noon, for the purpose of nominating one person to serve as a member of tlie Provincial Council for the town of Christchurch : and in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place on Friday, the 9th day of March next *, in the lobby of the Provincial Council Chamber at Christchurch.
