To Merchants and Contractors. ri^HE Provincial Government are . prepared to receive tenders for a contract to supply about Sixty Thousand feet of Sawn Timber for the building of,tbe Provincial Council Chamber and Government Offices. Particulars of the Contract and invoices of the boards and scantling required will be ready for inspection at the office of Public. Works in Christchurch, and at the Resident Magistrate's Office, Lyttelton, on and after Wednesday, the 14lh inst. The Timber must be delivered on the ground. The Tenders must be sent into this office on or before Wednesday, the 28th inst. Tile Government will not bind itself to accept the lowest or any tender. For the Provincial Secretary, T. B. HPHE Provincial Government are prepared to enter into arrangements for the establishment of Steam communication between Lyttelton and the Plains in one of the following ways. Firstly, by the grant of a bonus to any person or company who shall establish such «ommunicatiou, calculated on the loss likely to be sustained. Secondly, by guaranteeing a certain rate of dividend on the capital embarked in the undertaking. Thirdly, by advancing a part of the capital required. Capitalists who are disposed to carry out the riews of the Government upon any of the conditions above described, are requested to send in tenders to this office, containing full particulars of the terms on which they propose to act.
