"Leading Article "is a beautiful Dark Brown .Horse, free from white, now rising six years old, with an excellent constitution. ' '■' Leading Article,' was foaled at Nelson, where he won the Leger in 1852, beating Mr. Timlin's Gipsey Queen, and on ■ the following day, the Ladies' Purse, beating Mr. Newconib's mare Vesta, and Mr. Godfrey's horse Silver Tail, Leading Article carrying 13 lbs. over weight: distance, one mile and3B6 yards; run in 2 minutes aud 21 seconds. Leading Article was trained .for the Nelson races in 1853, and was the favourite for the Victualler's Purse of 3 miles against Mr. Redwood's celebrated horse Glaucus, and Mr. Newcomb's horse Joe Miller, but'broke down in the race'through an injury he had sustained in the Fetlock joint, notwithstanding, running a good second with Glaucus. Master Robert the sire of Skeleton was got by Bnffa out of Small Hopes by Scaramouch, her dam by Blank Traveller. Buffa by Pantaloon out of a Herod mare. Pantaloon by Match'em out of Curiosity by Snap, Regulus, Brutus, Chiidcrs, {vide Stud Boob,p. 409 vol. 4.) Egremont by Whalebone out of Thalestres, (bred by Mr. Glossip in 1809), by Alexander, her dam Rival by Sir Peter out of Hornet by Drone.
